MIDDLETON POOL DEVELOPMENT

Major building work is well under way at Middleton Pool. Supported by Milton Keynes Council, funded through the Government Free Swimming Initiatives Capital Modernisation Project and Newport Pagnell Town Council, the building work offers a larger reception area and training / function room for pool party bookings and a variety of leisure courses such as the I.S.R.M. Pool Plant Operators Certificate, R.L.S.S. National Pool Lifeguard Courses and A.S.A. Swimming Teacher qualifications. Work on the new poolside store, refurbishment of the disabled changing facility and replacing the old boilers to new high efficiency boilers is now complete.

Middleton Pool has just received two top awards from recognized institutions within the leisure industry. In December 2009 the pool was awarded Quest Highly Commended from Quest the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure and in February 2010 a Customer Satisfaction Award from the Sport England National Benchmark Service.

Town Mayor Councilor Roger Hornblow stated he and the Town Council are delighted in the success of the town’s popular pool and that the building work will enhance the facility to cope with growing demand from residents of Newport Pagnell and across Milton Keynes. Building work is due for completion late May early June and the pool remains open to the general public.

QUEST

In December 2009 we were awarded QUEST Highly Commended status with a score of 80% which comes after two years of continuous improvement.  QUEST is the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.  We joined the QUEST scheme in September 2005 where we received Registered status with a score of 61% and we have gone on to improve our systems and standards ever since.

The team was assessed on criteria, covering items such as cleanliness of the building, maintenance of the building, plant and equipment, environmental control (temperature, lighting, ventilation), changing rooms, health and safety, customer relations, marketing and pricing, reception and administration.

Some of the Assessment comments were:

  • "The levels of cleanliness witnessed were high and consistently monitored.  All cleaning tasks were suitably recorded."
  • "The changing rooms offered well maintained and adequate changing accommodation appropriate to the needs of the pool.  There was clear evidence of consistent and regular monitoring of the changing rooms and toilets to maintain standards of hygiene and presentation."
  • "Management analyse customers' comments and provide clear feedback to all customers of the centre."
  • "A good range of customer information is displayed appropriately around the centre."
